How to get started on TikTok

TikTok, TikTok, TikTok! That’s all everybody is talking about right now. It can be great for business and personal brand growth but can be a scary platform to jump into. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to start, here’s a few tips to help you on your way.

Consistency is key

When you start posting TikToks, you might be under the impression that you’re going to be TikTok famous overnight. But the reality is that you have to post consistently and with high-quality videos for a looooong time before the TikTok algorithm starts to take you seriously. It could be days or weeks of posting videos that barely reach 200 views before you get any traction. Be patient. As long as your videos are unique, high quality and engaging, your audience will find you!

Tune into the Trends

As cringe as it may feel to follow a TikTok trend, the way the algorithm works, that’s your best chance of your video being seen. If you can keep your finger on the pulse of what songs are up and coming or what video styles are doing well, you can hop on it early and TikTok loves that. It’s also just a great way to get inspired when you’re struggling to think of what kinds of videos to make and a good way to try out some new content ideas.

Niche down

At least to start with, know your niche and really lean into it. Become the account that people go to for content about one specific thing. This helps grow your community because they know what they’re getting. It also helps TikTok know who to push your videos out to. Watch other videos from successful creators in a similar niche. Note what works well to engage their audiences and see if you can take elements of what they’re doing and apply it to your own videos.

Of course, nothing beats being authentic on social media. So rely on your personality and your unique perspective to get your message out there! Here are a few creators to check out that are doing really well at the moment from being niche, consistent and authentic.
