We’ve just finished our first full year as a B Corp™️ and we’re proud of how much we’ve been able to achieve already. For us one of the most valuable things about the B Corp certification process was that it forced to formalise and document a lot of the good stuff we were doing already. This impact report is part of that. A chance to celebrate where we are and be accountable to people like you who are reading this.
We make good video that does good. For people, platforms and the planet.
Over the past year, here’s what we’ve achieved in each of the three areas that make up the Studio 91 Manifesto.
Good for people
✋ 173 volunteer hours given to good causes
💸 £1,415 cash donations to charity
Since the start of 2024, every staff member has had the opportunity to use one paid day per month to volunteer for a cause that means something to them. This is a really valuable way for us to support our community while keeping the team happy.
It’s great working for a company that actively wants you to give back.
Jamie Swaby, Senior Video Producer
In celebration of B Corp month, we set ourselves a challenge along with our shared office buddies to log 2,500 miles of physical activity in March 2025, while fundraising for Mind. We smashed our target with 2,951 miles, 1,000 of which were provided by our little team of three. Altogether we raised £1,213 for Mind, which we hope will make a real difference to people struggling with their mental health.
This epic collage is the result of a photography walk around Castlefield that we organised with 13 of our colleagues. An opportunity to bond and have fun while racking up those miles!
Good for platforms
🫶 71% of turnover from projects with a specific social or environmental purpose
“Good for platforms” means putting wholesome, positive content out there. Not simply contributing to the toxic noise that makes up most of the internet. All our content should pass that test, but here we’ve specifically measured the percentage of our income that came from projects with a clear purpose-driven focus. Think charity comms, educational content, the arts, and marketing content for B Corp businesses. The percentage has slightly increased from last year’s, which was 66%.
Good for the planet
📉 Still en route to Net Zero…sort of.
See below!
🌍 £1,415 donated to planet-friendly causes
£1,369 monetary donations, plus £13,300 in-kind
We’ve been a 1% for the Planet member for four years now. Being the over-achievers that we are, we’ve actually given just under 4% of our turnover (£21,959) across the four years. The past year has been the biggest yet due to the amount of in-kind donations through Ben’s pro-bono video production work for Walk Ride GM.
In January 2025, Ben was forced to do a bit of soul-searching and grapple with the fact that we had a Net Zero target of 2025 which we simply could not achieve. Following a lot of support and advice from our brilliant community of sustainable businesses, we realised that while this was a mistake, it’s helpful for everyone when we’re honest about these things rather than sweeping under the carpet. As a low-impact micro business, reducing our Scope 3 emissions by at least 90% is physically not possible yet. This is due to (for example) the UK’s dependency on gas power. Our next step is to re-evaluate our Net Zero target to be more in line with the wider country.
In the meantime…
We’re still tracking our CO2e numbers, although we’ve had to switch calculators. The one we were using no longer exists, so we moved over to the new Small Business Carbon Calculator. The good news is that has the level of accuracy and authority that we need. The bad news is our numbers have actually gone up as a result. Our CO2e in 2024-25 was 8.93 tonnes, which is 1.5% higher than our baseline year (2021-22). One major factor is that we’re now able to track the emissions of employee commuting and homeworking. We weren’t able to do this with the previous calculator, which is one reason our numbers were lower.
Despite the increase in total emissions, our carbon intensity now sits at 49.05 tonnes per $M revenue. This is 18% lower than our baseline. We are continuing to partner with ON A MISSION to support tree planting projects equivalent to 150% of our emissions. We can’t fix everything by offsetting, but it’s a start.
So what?
We want to keep pushing to be the best we can be: making good work, doing good, leaving this place better than we found it. Hopefully this impact report gives you a sense of where we’re up to on that journey, and inspires you to take things further where you are.
If you have any questions at all about anything in this report, please drop us a line – we’d love to chat about it.
