Telling the story of a housing association with community at its heart

Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG) might be Manchester’s largest provider of social housing, but they’re not some faceless corporation. They are an integral part of the community. 50% of staff live in Wythenshawe, while 20% are tenants themselves. We worked with WCHG over several months to interview some of the team and tenants, and produce video content that showcased what they’re about.

We produced several films and social clips on a wide range of topics, from digital inclusion to sustainability. The stand-out piece of content for us was this recruitment film, showcasing the diversity of the workforce and the way they’re genuinely plugged into the company’s values.

The main thing that video production and social housing have in common is the need to understand people. The examples here show what we saw in person: that WCHG’s staff truly understand what makes their tenants tick. Similarly, to do our job properly we have to tease out people’s stories. Good editing is about packaging those stories up in the clearest, most engaging way possible.

This kind of impactful documentary storytelling is one of the things we’re best at. We especially love it when we can squeeze in loads of snappy social content alongside a bigger production. Do you need help telling the stories of your organisation in this way? If so, please drop us a line and let’s get started!

I've been producing digital content since 2012, primarily for flagship BBC brands like Blue Peter and BBC News. Now I run Studio 91 Media, a video production agency on a mission: to create content that is good for platforms, good for people and good for the planet. When I'm not behind a camera, I can often be found playing cello at weddings or riding a three-wheeled cargo bike called Babs.
